This resort village is situated in the south-west of county Zala, between Letenye and Lenti, near the Slovenian and Croatian border. Apart from taking the exit road from main road No. 7, you can get to the village by forest narrow gauge rail or on built-up bicycle road.

The settlement of 1,000 inhabitants is the cradle of oil industry, but the industrial past and present are in picturesque harmony in the neighbourhood. Its main attractions include the beach, the botanical garden and the fishing lake nearby and the relics of industrial history. Its American \'housing estates\' are unique from an architectural point of view.

The village was formed by uniting two villages in 1937, when hydrocarbon reserves were discovered near its border. The exploitation of the oil and natural gas was started here first in Hungary with the help of American specialists. 3 km from the village a Memorial of Oil Industry was established next to the first oil well drilled in 1937 with a small monument and a museum. The establishment of the Budafa Botanical Garden started with the renewal of the park and the lake of the Zichy hunting-seat, the building of a new reservoir and planting new, exotic tree species, which are rare in Europe.
